Kuwait Health Initiative Created to Promote Health Sector Reform in the Gulf

Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) January 29, 2008 -- Kuwait Health Initiative (KHI), the leading Kuwaiti health sector reform web site and a vital source of information for laypeople and health care professionals interested in developing health services in the Gulf, has recently been created to tackle the current health care crisis witnessed in the region.

More specifically, the KHI team warns of the implications of persistently neglecting the health sector and not attributing the right resources to reverse the deterioration of the Kuwaiti health system. Recent data from the WHO places Kuwait in the 8th position, ahead of the United States, in the prevalence of overweight people. Kuwait also suffers the 5th highest rate of diabetes in the world. Unlike many listed nations, Kuwait has not successfully engaged in public education and policy reform to help reverse this.

By overcoming the void in quality information, the team at KHI hopes that this initiative will stir debates and critiques from both the people of the region and the policy makers and health sector administrators of those nations.

Kuwait Health Initiative (formerly, Kuwait Health), established in 2005 by Drs. Nadeem Al-Duaij and Bibi Alamiri, saw the light after its founders, both medical doctors, sought to provide a forum for health care professionals to express their thoughts on the regression of health services in Kuwait.
